Acknowledgements My thanks goes to John Cartwright for his support and assistance without which I would not have taken this tour on, or the enormous amount of time and work in preparing these notes.
Note of Apology
The information outlined in this brochure is the best available to the editors at the time of preparation.
There is a small amount of information concerning many of the locations, primarily because they have for so long remained in military hands. We have done the best we can from very limited
and often dated open source information, and accept that some factual errors may well have been made. For this we apologies in advance and ask that members update us if they can correct
things. We therefore wish to acknowledge our contributors: Charles H Blackwood, Dr Stephen Spiteri, Wikipedia, Google Earth, The National Archives in the UK & Malta. David Moore,
Victorian Forts & Artillery
This book has been assembled for the 2017 tour to Malta by Alistair Graham Kerr FLS and John Cartwright MA
Together with this Tour Guide we include Armament Layout of 1861
We have looked at the overall armament of Malta, during the Victorian period and found that there were many more types of cannon and guns used. We have done a small booklet for this tour that covers only the Armament Layout of Valletta and Floriana of 1861 as compiled by Lt Bruce Brine Royal Engineers in
1864. We are aware that some calibres such as the 64-pounder were still being used but for whatever reason these were not included on the list and therefore are not written up. We have found it difficult researching and apologise for any errors, my main source has been the Wikipedia of which as you may know is put together by amateur
editors who have an interest as we have in this subject. John Cartwright has compiled a wider range of Victorian Armament for all Malta for the FSG Website.
