Îlot des Capucins (Islet of the Capuchins) is a fortification built in 1848 to help to protect Camaret Bay, and access to the important Brest Harbour. The fort is situated on a small island, connected by a footbridge to the mainland. Although built in 1848 plans had been made by Vauban to build a fortification on the Island 150 years earlier.
The Fort has a number of batteries including an Upper Battery from 1885, a Mortar Battery from 1889 and an underground Magazine and rupture battery was added in 1897.
