The Fortress Study Group is an international society concerned with the study of all aspects of military architecture and fortifications and their armaments, especially works constructed to mount and resist artillery.

Our Publications
The Fortress Study Group publishes an annual journal FORT, which contains articles about the theory, development, practice, conservation, adaptation and reuse of fortifications and related military architecture. The society also publishes Casemate, a well-established magazine which appears three times a year.
Overseas Tours
Every year an overseas Study Tour is undertaken. The venue varies but for 2019 we had a trip to France, and a larger tour to Greece. For 2020 a tour of Crete is presently being considered. See events on this site.

International Affiliations
The group actively co-operates with other national and international societies with similar interests in other countries throughout the world. It is a member of the International Castles Institute (IBI) and a founding member of the International Fortress Council (IFC).
Research Papers
We are slowly building up a collection of reference papers for members to use.
Members Days
Members’ Days are held annually if possible, with one held already in 2019. A second event in 2019 is still in the planning stage.
The FSG Digital Library
The FSG website houses a large collection of FORT and Casemate journals. There is also a growing collection of related papers and reports.
A COMMUNITY DRIVEN FORTFINDER
FORTFINDER is a free and open platform to plot and provide information on fortifications throughout the World.
DEFENCE OF GIBRALTAR
The Defence of Gibraltar Project is a joint effort by the FSG to plot fortifications in Gibraltar.
